I would pay off our home and simply do a few upgrades.

I would buy a home in Maggie Valley North Carolina with the best mountain view. I LOVE it there. It's the most beautiful place in the world to me. I'd rather go there than ANYWHERE!!!

I would live where I'm at--that's why I'm here. I would buy some land in Florida though. Not land to build on, but land to preserve. I might even buy a couple of the beachfront homes for sale along the east coast just to tear them down and turn the beach back to "just beach" again.

I'd stay right where I am. Why move. I have a great house w/ my kids in great schools. Close to all of my family. Anything I want to do is nearby (shopping, muesums, pro sports, lakes, international airport, great medical care). Excellent area for my kids to take advantage of the same opportunities afforded me so that we could make it on one income and still be able to get them thru college. Even w/ the cons (hot summers) overall there is nothing that compares or offers the best in more areas than anywhere else that I have seen.

Then, I would have a condo on a beach in a small resort (state side), a condo on a beach in the islands and maybe a place in Lake Tahoe ON the lake.

I would pay off my house here so that my BIL could stay here when we move to ID and we would have somewhere to stay when we come back to visit. We would get the property in ID that we are looking at and would remodel it however we want it. We would get a place in San Diego, nothing big, just something so that we could go stay whenever we wanted to visit friends/family. We would spend maybe 1 mil on these properties and then invest the rest. My hubby would not work anymore unless he wanted to do programming from home.

I would move to San Antonio, TX and build myself a Eichler or Cliff May inspired Mid-Century Modern home decked out in MCM furniture with a japanese garden and a cool modern swimming pool. I would buy tons of land and have all kinds of animals on it-sorta like a animal sanctuary. I would buy my mother a condo in Manhattan (she now lives in Queens, NY). I'll invest the rest of the money in real estate and stocks. Travel and enjoy my wife and son. Oh and have more kids if my wife is game.

$5 million lottery after taxes means about 2 1/2 million. Invest 1 million for income for the rest of your life, then pick your two favorite locations, one for winter and one for summer, and buy one of each. Put anything left over into good charities. You gotta think like the actual rich folks do!
