As a student in 7th grade, I can confirm at kids today do indeed say, "it's a free county." This saying usually follows after someone says, "you can't do that," or "why are you doing that?"
Sometimes what they say isn't even legal or doesn't apply to America being a free country. Nonetheless they repeat the term throughout their childish scholar years.

My mother used to inform me that she was free, white and over 21. Telling people that it's a free country sounds more inclusive.

So do grownups. It is amazing how few people are conscious of the fact that the "freedom" guaranteed by the constitution applies only to limits on the state to curtail your freedom. Your boss or your landlord or your mother is unconstrained by the Constitution to make demands on you and penalize you for exercising freedom.
