Funny, my college roommate who grew up in Marin (but moved to NJ) always mentions how similar Fairfield County is to Marin.

Great comparisons.

Well, both are physically about the same size, while Denver is only slightly larger than Charlotte, population-wise. I've been to every major American city, and if you're going to compare it with an eastern U.S. city, Charlotte comes closest in resemblance.

Beltway: Charlotte: I-485 (three-fourths completed); Denver: 470: (two-thirds/three-fourths looped around Denver.

Development patterns: Charlotte: South of the City, solid development for about fifteen miles, then splotchy development another twenty down to Rock Hill, SC. North of the city, development stretching from north of I-85 along I-77 for about ten miles, splotchy for fifteen miles. I-85 runs north of uptown (downtown) Charlotte, which acts more like an east-west right in the city. East & West of downtown: Development is solid for about ten to fifteen miles in each direction.
Denver: South of the city, solid development for about fifteen miles down to Parker or Lone Oak, then splotchy development. North of the city, development stretches north of I-70 for about ten miles, which runs north of downtown Denver. Development east and west from downtown runs anywhere from ten to fifteen miles.

Both cities have lots of newer developed areas. Both are relatively "high growthers" for their regions.

Sure, Charlotte doesn't have mountains immediately in its backdrop, but they're only about an hour to an hour and a half away.
