I also read on another thread that the Richmond region has become more like NOVA in recent years. I did not say that Virginia had shed all its southern ways. That will likely never happen. Compared to most of the South, a person from outside the region could be comfortable there. I know a few people from outside the South that have moved there.

That's true of areas in several Southern states, like the Triangle in NC, Charlotte, coastal SC, Atlanta, a huge chunk of FL, Huntsville, AL, Nashville, TX, etc. Typically people from outside of the South that are moving to the region are settling in the urban areas.

That is true, but the NOVA area is also the closest to the northeast areas where some of these people still have family, friends and relatives. It is a close call. You won't be inundated with southern culture to the same extent as you would in Huntsville, Nashville, Charlotte or suburban Atlanta. It is not as southern in lifestyle or geography as the other areas.

Yes but even then, Richmond has a long ways to go to resemble NOVA. Richmond is still a Southern city at heart.
You are right Richmond is southern at heart but a long way to resemble NOVA? Outside of Alexandria and Arlington NOVA is not very urban vibrant yes but not an urban environment its like Buckhead on steroids.

He was referring to the degree of Southern culture found in NOVA vs. Richmond. Richmond would have to absorb a whole lot more transplants to get to where NOVA is with respect to Southern culture, or the lack thereof.

True and the Maryland Eastern Shore is very Southern like areas south of Richmond.....
To be fair, it's tv. And honey boo boo is based out of Georgia, right. You would definitely hear more of that in Bama or North Florida than Texas because the accents are similar.
sorry I was making reference to jacksonville may not be the case .I don't know.It is big city.

From what I read on biography on shipping wars one of the girls was born on ranch in texas , other girl from south carolina and a guy from North Carolina.
The Texas accents is different types all over the state. I find Houston and Dallas more similar to the shows , where Fort Worth and Amarillo is not as strong and nothing alike.The suburbs in Fort Worth , Dallas and Houston probably less because of all the transplants.
Same with Alabama it as more twang.
