Which of these 17 places is the most unique in your opinion?
1) Santa Fe, New Mexico
2) Key West, Florida
3) New Orleans, Louisiana
4) Vashon Island, Washington
5) Cannon Beach, Oregon
6) Fort Worth, Texas
7) Savannah, Georgia
8) Charleston, South Carolina
9) Madison, Wisconsin
10) Annapolis, Maryland
11) Portland, Maine
12) Bangor, Maine
13) Boulder, Colorado
14) Oxford, Mississippi
15) Charlottesville, Virginia
16) Burlington, Vermont
17) Manchester, New Hampshire
I don't know why you chose a couple of those places. I mean what's so unique about Fort Worth? I would say Key West is the most unique. It's the only one on the list with a true tropical climate and being there you don't feel like you're in the US but rather a secluded island in the Caribbean somewhere (well....it doesn't feel quite secluded because Key West is pretty crowded but you get the point).

Vashon Island. I find it interesting that a suburban community in a major metropolitan area is only accessible by ferry. I'm trying to think another example of this in the US but can't.

Manchester is just a mid sized old mill town/former industrial river city. Places like this are a dime a dozen in the Northeast and Rustbelt. Not a whole lot that is unique or outstanding in Manchester and the downtown is rather mediocre. For a unique city in New Hampshire I'd say Portsmouth stands out a lot more with it's collection of historic homes dating back to the 1700's, vibrant downtown, great restaurants, and it's scenic harbor.

I think Fort Worth is VERY unique - in fact, it was my second choice, after New Orleans (there simply is no other place on earth even SIMILAR to New Orleans!).
Fort Worth is the gateway to the American West. It has a huge, historical "cowboy" and "Tex Mex" feel to it, that is totally missing just a few miles to the east of Fort Worth. The historical stockyards area is especially unique.
I've been to all of them, and lived in three of the. Definitely New Orleans, but I haven't been there since Katrina, so I don't know if it is still unique. In all the rest, the culture is the same as the surrounding area, the place just has a feature or two that makes it unique. In New Orleans, the culture is unique, and every minute of every day is different from anywhere else. You can never forget that you there, even after living there for several years. Go in the house and shut the door, and New Orleans is still out there, looking in the windows and walking on the roof. It comes in through the keyhole.
