Am I crazy........or why hasn't anyone mentioned the "first" city only has the 5th most visitors.

the numbers are random compared to the rankings.

In looking at the link provided, the cities are ranked by a "weighted score" that includes more than one set of numbers. The methodolgy is explained here: http://www.forbestraveler.com/best-l...s-story-2.html

Second, I would bet that ATL ranks up there for the same reason Indianapolis does; conventions. Indianapolis is a major city for conventions; it is my understanding that ATL is as well.
For Atlanta it's a combination of:

1. conventions and trade shows - some of which draw 100,000 or more...Atlanta is one of the top 5 convention cities in the U.S.
2. sporting events - NCAA Final Four, Super Bowl, SEC Tournament, Peach Bowl, NASCAR events...these types of events draw enough fans to fill the Dome or Atlanta Motor Speedway
3. tourism - historic site like the King Center, and special weekends like New Year's Eve, Gay Pride, or the Dogwood Fesitval.

Congratulations Austin. With 20,000,000 visitors you have eclipsed both SF and Boston.
