Probably due to the entertainment but also the business scene, I know plenty of black people in NY who want to and have moved to Atlanta. Atlanta seems to have become a center for the Black Film Industry and movie making what with Tyler Perry's outfit there. I forget the name of his company but he's an employer, plus there is CNN hdqtrs. I've enjoyed some of his movies. Anyway, many younger black people in NY have been shuttling back and forth or relocating there. Lots of suburbs around Atlanta to choose from or even Downtown or Midtown. Lots of NY/NJ of all types there too since the NorthEast can't seem to support itself any longer.

I don't know who else but there's a niche there, I don't know how large but attracts not only in film industry but other business and professional sectors.

There are plenty of black people there though and from what I've seen has significant middle class areas surrounding the city as well as close in suburbs like Decatur, iirc. But Decatur seemed to be well integrated.

Well, in the case of Oakland, it breaks down like this,

the dark red areas are 70-100% black, the red areas are 50%-69% black, The are covered by the blue circles are wealthy areas in that part of town. Blacks dominate Far East Oakland and they dominate the wealthy hillside areas of East Oakland as well.

And some have accused this area of having decent views too.LOL

The original map on Wikipedia-I added the circles.

I haven't been to Oakland in a few years now, (I really need to visit) but I've always liked the bay area, (I've only lived in Southern, California though).

I have family in Berkeley, and I remember visiting them back n the day in the 90's, and thought to myself, I might move to the bay one day. Berkeley is Beautiful. My wife is from the east bay over in Concord.

Some one needs to start an Oakland picture thread, those homes are gorgeous.

DC has the highest concentration of affluent AA's in the country. PG County is the wealthiest AA county in the nation. (Look it up)

This is correct. What are some of the areas in which affluent AA households represent a high percentage of the population? Ive always been interested in this topic because I believe this group proves stereotypes wrong, they show that the struggle to succeed has tangible results. Maybe they can provide a blueprint for success that can be used by future generations. Of course, no matter what race, hard work and determination in the US is duely rewarded.

I think everyone already knows this, but Baldwin Hills in Los Angeles is a very affluent African-American neighborhood. It's in the South Central (now just called South) area of Los Angeles, and surrounded by poorer to middle-class African-American neighborhoods, but it is nice. Personally, I would rather live in a middle-class neighborhood than a poor or upper-class one.

Isn't there any nice African American dominated areas where the people are middle class and working class? Why does a Black dominated town have to be rich to be nice?

I Agree with you totally! The original poster asked for information on towns where there are nice black people, yet everyone seems to be equating nice black communities with affluent black communities. There are many, many nice working black towns and communities across America, many of which are not composed of wealthy or highly educated black people. Being nice and a good human being has nothing to do with the size of one's house or bank account is... it's about having a good heart...period.
