If not the most obese. There are many articles that confirm this. Do you think there is hope? do you think this will ever change? what is being done to combat this?

Eating too much processed foods, too much sugar & flour, too large of helpings, food too cheap, not enough moving around, and it's become culturally acceptable to be obese.

I think we're seeing a change in attitudes that people with half a brain will change their eating habits to prevent obesity and all the resulting health problems from that.

Can I ask the OP a question:

Do they show Honey Boo Boo in New Zealand?

Don't know about them? They're the voice for change in America these days when it comes to the obesity epidemic (and the social links to obesity)

That is really -much- a "personal problem" isn't it? Yes. Certainly, the Food and Drug Administration -should- "engage THINK TANKS" on the point, specifically.

The problem is because certain foods are too cheap (the unhealthy processed variety) and whole food items tend to be too expensive for many. Until the U.S. stops subsidizing items like corn, feed grain and sugar in place of fruits and vegetables, this is what we're faced with. The economics otherwise are stacked toward the fast food industry, processed food/snack food manufacturers and soft drink companies.

That helps explain a good part of it.
