A Interstate 66 westward extension to Cincinnati to provide a direct route between that city and Washington DC along with a westward extension of Interstate 68 that does a northwest curve up to Wheeling to make the Interstate 70 in western Pennsylvania less congested.

Redesignate Bud Shuster's Interstate 99 as a southward extension of Interstate 390 and add a sign with a photo of Bud Shuster wearing an Interstate 390 shirt somewhere along the road, then start a real Interstate 99 that starts where Interstate 95 breaks off the New Jersey Turnpike, and then goes down the Delmarva and through the Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel after crossing the Delaware River.

An Interstate 77 southern extension to Florida that's in-between Interstate 75 and 95. At Orlando, Interstate 77 follows Florida's Turnpike to the Miami area.

Interstate 6 starts at Tallahassee and heads southeast to the northwestern terminus of Florida's Turnpike. Then it follows Florida's Turnpike until it meets Route 528, then it follows route 528 east until its eastern terminus which would also be the eastern terminus of Interstate 6.

I-74 here in NC seems pointless.

It's supposed to be part of plan to give the Interstate 74 in the Midwest a southeast expansion to the Carolina coast so Ohio's not the only Midwestern state with easy access to the Carolinas. The West Virginia and Virginia portions have never been started though, at least not yet.

Huntsville needs an extension for I-565 and I-85 in Montgomery should extend through Selma into Demopolis. Also, I-65 and/or I-85 should branch off through Dothan into Florida to connect with I-10.

I posted a Interstate 6 idea that goes from Tallahassee, FL to Cape Canaveral, FL. It could also stretch the other way, northwest past Tallahassee to connect with Interstate 65 in Alabama.

Useless interstates that should probably be deprecated:

I-15, just the portion N of Great Falls MT to the Canadian border. (Is this really the part of the world we need to travel to Canada at top speed? Canada doesn't seem to think so, downgrading the highway on their side of the border)
I-29, just the portion N of Fargo ND to the Canadian border. (same story, sorry Grand Forks)
I-89, just the portion N of Burlington VT to the Canadian border. (same story, because get out of your cars Vermonters!)
I-72 between Hannibal MO and Champaign IL (sending the interstate count of Decatur to 0 and Springfield to 1)
I-172 attached to Hannibal (because Quincy IL just takes too long to drive through)
I-86 between Woodbury NY and Erie PA (how do you manage traffic counts this low this close to NYC?)
I-88 between Binghamton NY and Schenectady NY (big yawn)
I-73 from Greensboro NC to Ellerbe NC (build it and they will pay for it)
I-86 near Pocatello ID (when you want to go northwest from SLC, take I-84. When you want to go north, take I-15. When you change your mind halfway, yeah, that's pretty much the only reason I-86 exists)
I-99 near Williamsport PA (this was always a pork barrel project, and now we have one of the first documented instances of non-mine-related sulfuric acid leaking into waterways because of it)
I-69W/C/E, way south Texas. (it's bad enough we split I-35 into two. Why don't we just call I-69C I-69W (since it parallels I-69E closely) and call the Laredo one I-6, since it's much more east-west than the others?)
I-140 in Knoxville TN (on the Oak ridge side of I-40 it's just as nice on TN-162)
I-180 in Cheyenne WY (guys, hate to break this to you, but this isn't an interstate. If it has traffic lights on it..)
I-990 near Buffalo (is halfway to Lockport a destination worthy of the highest-numbered interstate in the land?)

Badly needed interstates:

I-3 Replace I-880 and CA-17 in their entirety between Santa Cruz, San Jose, and Oakland, CA. Tack on the western half of I-580 to bridge with the 101 if desired, or cosign (and upgrade!) CA-1 south/east of Santa Cruz. This would be great because bay area freeway numbering is jacked up, with many of the daughter freeways of I-80 either not connecting to it at all (I-280) or using even beltway numbers when they're really odd-numbered spurs (I-880, I-680), or just adopting California highway numbers wholesale (I-238). We could fix all these with a new I-3 (and no, Georgia, if you want a coastal freeway you have to go up from 75, not down).

I-18 Finally connect Phoenix/Mesa and Albuquerque directly. Connect from I-10/AZ-202 to AZ-87 Beeline Hwy to AZ-260 at Payson to AZ-277 at Heber-Overgaard, new construction from Snowflake to meet AZ-61 at Witch Well, meeting I-40 at Grants. Ridiculous amount of demand by truck traffic, even when they're forced to add two hours on I-17, which has ridiculous altitude changes.

I-33 Finally Denver to Dallas, though a little different than some would do it. Start in Raton NM at I-25, meet I-40 in Amarillo, TX, follow US-287 to Fort Worth.

I-40 It's finally going to have a clean path, but CA-58 between Barstow CA and just W of Bakersfield CA is ready for the upgrade, now that Bakersfield has realized people want to go further west than Bakersfield. Maybe can be extended further W than I-5 but that direction's not near as busy.

I-45 Extend this bad boy along the existing US-75 freeway in Dallas and points north- won't even require you to renumber the existing stretches. Stop at I-44 in Vinita OK (they can exit at McAlester if they still want to go to Tulsa).

I-710 They're building a tunnel, someday, to join the incomplete LA road network together under South Pasadena. Ridiculous amounts of truck thru-traffic have made driving in LA miserable.

Interstate trivia:

The only two contiguous states in the US to *not* have a three-digit interstate are Arizona and New Mexico.

An an eastern extension of Idaho's Interstate 86 through Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, to either Wisconsin or Illinois would be perfect if not for the fact that it'd be entirely above Interstate 88 in Illinois.
