Hmm, I live in Michigan and enjoy saying 'crawdad'. The map says Michigan says 'crayfish' but not me, I'm a rebel.

Yes, they are to me (grew up in Minneapolis).

Somebody mentioned the pin-pen merger thing. I don't know where that is predominant, but interestingly, I don't think it is dominant in the same areas that the Mary-marry-merry merger is (I know I myself make a definite distinction in those particular vowel sounds...)

I'm from NYC and I pronounce "Berry" and "Bury" the same way (both sound like "berry"), but Barry is pronounced differently.

To me Berry and Bury are similar yet different

Berry = ber ee
Barry = Baar ee
Bury = burr ee

Being from Philly, I don't understand how most of the U.S does not pronounce marry, merry and mary all distinctively. It guess its a northeastern thing lol.
It's pretty much a Philly thing at this point. The rest of the Northeast has two pronunciations instead of three, I think.

I don't think it's just a Philly thing, I pronounce them all differently as well.

Marry = Maree (Ma as in Math)
Mary = Mairee
Merry = Mehree

I used to call long sandwiches hoagie before Subway became popular. I live nowhere near Philly.

A lot of my words are atypical of the southern region.

I call carbonated beverages "soda" or "burp juice".

I call a metal cage on wheels to put groceries in a "basket" or "shopping cart" depending on my mood. I have never called one a "buggy".

I "wash" my hands, not "warsh".

and so on... But then my parents came from other regions, and I grew up around a lot of transplants.
