I've only been in Mid-TN for a few months, but I've noticed people do a lot of traveling here, since a lot of things are within a few hours to within a day worth of travel.
A lot of in-state travel to Knoxville and Chattanooga. Louisville is 3 hours away, and Atlanta is not that far. The eastern coast is nearby and also the gulf cost.
Northern Ontario is the main summer vacation for GTA residents. Cottaging and camping are a big part of life here in Southern Ontario, and areas like Muskoka, the Kawarthas, Bancroft and Halliburton, Algonquin Park, Lake Nippissing, Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula attract tens of thousands of Toronto families every summer.
Florida and Cuba are popular winter destinations for residents of the GTA.

Most Arizonians vacation in Cali for the beach, or head up north to Vegas when we want to get loose (because outside the strip Vegas and Phoenix are the same thing.) When we want mountains and snow, we head to Flagstaff. Also sometimes instead of heading to California for the beach, we will hit up Rocky Point in Mexico instead. Not too many go to Mexico because our bordering Mexico state has some pretty bad drug issues.
On the beaches during the summer, there are some times where there's more out of state license tags than South Carolina tags.
People in my area (close to the coast) generally go on day trips to the beach, but if you live anywhere inland, people are more likely to rent beach houses to go to the beach. People also go to Carowinds amusement park for day trips, and all the mountains near Greenville are an easy drive.
Within Orange County, we have Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and plenty of coastal resorts. Lots of people also go on day trips to San Diego or Santa Barbara. You could also go to Catalina Island or Big Bear.
Further away, many go to the Colorado River, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite, San Francisco, among other places.
Cincinnatians love nature. They go to Red River Gorge and Hocking Hills often. Day trips to Clifton Gorge and Brookville Reservoir very often. And sometimes take long trips to Western Michigan or the Smokey Mountains. To get away to another city, people often take day trips to Columbus or Louisville, or longer vacations in Chicago. But I hear about those trips far less often than the nature outings.
