Again, please remember that Beverly Hills is a well-known area because many celebrities live there. However, it's nowhere near the top list of the richest towns and neighborhoods in the US. In fact, none of the towns/neighborhoods in Los Angeles made it to the top 10 list of either Forbes or CNN/Money.

The Top 10 Earning Towns in the United States:

Top 10 Most Expensive Markets For “Average Home”

 1. Beverly Hills, Calif. $2,206,883
 2. Greenwich, Conn. $2,018,750
 3. La Jolla, Calif. $1,800,000
 4. Santa Monica, Calif. $1,785,000
 5. Palo Alto, Calif. $1,677,000
 6. Newport Beach, Calif. $1,617,500
 7. Santa Barbara, Calif. $1,599,667
 8. San Mateo, Calif. $1,498,023
 9. San Francisco, Calif. $1,451,250
 10. Boston, Mass. $1,381,250
September 26th, 2007

If you are looking to buy the average home in the United States, these are the most expensive markets. The average home in this survey by Caldwell Banker is 2,200 square feet with 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a family room, and a 2 car garage.
Looking over the list, California has 8 of the top 10 most expensive towns for the average home which is not a surprise with the fantastic run up in property values in 2007. Also on the list are Greenwich, Connecticut and Boston, Massachusetts in the northeast.
This has to account for the attention placed on housing out in California. When the average person is having to dig up nearly a million to get into a home housing becomes the leading discussion in the household. And if you held onto a home during the run-up you have a great deal of your wealth tied up in the real estate market.

That list is inaccurate. According to the website,

"The average home in this survey by Caldwell Banker is 2,200 square feet with 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a family room, and a 2 car garage."

A 2,200 square feet apartment with 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a family room and a parking for two cars would be $4+ million in Manhattan.

The people who compiled that list obviously didn't factor "urban" areas onto the list but single family detached homes.

Go to sleep. New York is far more glamorous and wealthier than Los Angeles. Just give it up.

And let's just put an end to this once and for all.

Number of Los Angelenos with income of $200,000 or more: 60,811

Number of New Yorkers with incomes of $200,000 or more: 156,621

There are nearly 3X more "wealthy" people in New York than there are in Los Angeles.

There are even more wealthy people in Orange County than Los Angeles. Orange County is richer than Los Angeles.

Orange County residents with incomes of $200,000 or more: 77,879

But there are still more wealthy people in New York City than Los Angeles and Orange County combined.

The topic is about "the glamorous life" and people do have different opinions about that. Please keep in mind that you, I and other folks in this forum are just normal citizens, not celebrities.

Calif. currently has the most foreclosure filings in the US, and many of the credit crunch problems are happening in LA and Southern CA. Do you know why, Princey? Just look the average income vs. the housing prices in your region and you'll have a clue.

The foreclosures due to those bad loans arent happening in rich areas-at least in CA they arent. Its mainly poor areas and lower priced exurbs.

haha no you need to go to sleep. It's still early on the West Coast. It's about 2am in Manhattan. Why do you feel the need to turn this glamorous issue into a Beverly Hills vs Manhattan, Hamptons, Scarsdale debate? Sure Manhattan has glamour but not like Beverly Hills. Manhattan is filled with hard working Business type of people while Beverly Hills has the snobby stuck up type who are very materialistic. Famous people call Beverly Hills home, thats where the most glitz and glamour is at.

Did that make you feel proud? lol no $hit we all know NYC brings in more wealth than Los Angeles. New York City is more of a serious business City while Los Angeles is still considered young. Dont act like a jealous woman over this. California has more wealth than the whole state of New York

Talking about who makes what and homes that cost 200 million or whatever misses the point. The point is avoided by the people on the East coast because the point is glamour, and they can't sell it! Ira Rennert is a Brooklyn imbecile who's company, Renco Group, does nothing but create so much of what East coaster's feel comprises the character of Los Angeles- pollution! 100,000 sq. feet of the most boring complex I've ever seen in a private residence outside of a government office in Soviet Russia! I know you weren't talking Hearst Castle in San Simeon, 'cause Ira's digs woud have had its doors literally blown off by compare, just on the class and style and glamour alone. Speaking of the other, Hearst Mansion, that's an old home probably from the 30's, judging by it's architectural characteristics. Already had a scene from a well established masterpiece in cinema history filmed there. Check "The Godfather" and watch for it. Hmmm, the tie-in to the most glamourous business I or anyone else will ever know, and I won't mention it by name here. It's the trump card that Los Angeles plays to get NY'rs squealing in defense! Saint, coming from L. A., you should have known better. Research, kiddo. Wealth means nothing in this debate of glamour, but it sure helps. Actually, without wealth, you then kinda have to depend on style or class, and that's hardly 'flashy'. There is wealth glamour, business glamour, sports glamour, art glamour. There are worlds of glamour that haven't been discussed here. Only discussions on rents per sq. foot or asking prices for homes or median incomes for the country's metropolitan areas. Still, you can't compare the two entertainment worlds in this country, and the entertainment worlds are where you find the most sought after personalities within said worlds. So much so that the New York based so called national news outlets stop their programming to see if Paris Hilton is coming out of her cell, and that's just Paris Hilton! Sorry, Broadway. I'll say this again; How many people around the world are gonna tune in to the Tonys this upcoming season? Will it even win its time slot on that night? Point made. The entertainment world based and centered around Southern California would be the most glamourous. Don't try, please..an awful lot of hollywood glamour bouncing around the hilltops above San Simeon during the 30's too. Saint, stay in your B-list world. Nothing personal, guys!

True statements indeed, LA has the lifestyle which the whole world is watching. The viewers arent watching what is going on in the Hamptons, Manhattan, Scarsdale, or even Mr. downtowns very own Chicago. I dont even know when was the last time I ever seen Chicago on TV period. Only thing i hear about Chicago is the Chicago fans yelling we want Kobe Bryant.
