Like I said it doesn't appear NYC is bidding, but worth noting Amtrak's Acela service can and does maintain 150mph speeds so it's not too far of a jump for that to happen in/around NYC.

Detroit. Keep the Ford Dome, Comerica Park, future new Red Wings arena, and bulldoze the rest for the Summer games.

Based on weather, existing venues, airports, transit, and hotels: San Francisco Bay area.

Not here, I hope. It costs the taxpayers billions of dollars to build all those stadiums.

Let someone else pay for it and I will watch it on the telly for free.

The only way it happens there (assuming Portland, from your handle), would be in a joint trans-national bid with Seattle and Vancouver, or the winter games. Portland can't even get the NBA all-star game to play there due to the supposed lack of hotel rooms.

First thing I thought. New York being too important for the games is just a weak rationalization for why its never hosted.

Tulsa? ROFL

They probably got the idea after learning the World Cup was awarded to Qatar.

I think both Chicago and New York had fantastic Olympic bids, so I'd love to see either of those cities host. They're probably the two cities best equipped to hold such a huge event as well due to stadiums, hotels, transit, population, etc. San Francisco would also be a spectacular setting for the Olympics. Aside from those three cities, I think Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, Miami, Seattle, New Orleans, and Honolulu are the only other major cities worth displaying to the world.

I don't think they would ever consider Miami since it would take place right smack in the middle of Hurricane season. Miami does have the infrastructure to host the Olympics though.
