London isn't anywhere near the geographic clusterf*ck that NYC is. Plus, with congestion charges and the price of petrol, London reduced vehicular traffic by a huge margin over the last decade. They also connected central London with the Olympic village via a 150mph dedicated ROW bullet train that carried 25k passengers per hour--something i just don't see happening in NYC.
Like I said it doesn't appear NYC is bidding, but worth noting Amtrak's Acela service can and does maintain 150mph speeds so it's not too far of a jump for that to happen in/around NYC.
Not here, I hope. It costs the taxpayers billions of dollars to build all those stadiums.
Let someone else pay for it and I will watch it on the telly for free.
The only way it happens there (assuming Portland, from your handle), would be in a joint trans-national bid with Seattle and Vancouver, or the winter games. Portland can't even get the NBA all-star game to play there due to the supposed lack of hotel rooms.
I think both Chicago and New York had fantastic Olympic bids, so I'd love to see either of those cities host. They're probably the two cities best equipped to hold such a huge event as well due to stadiums, hotels, transit, population, etc. San Francisco would also be a spectacular setting for the Olympics. Aside from those three cities, I think Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, Miami, Seattle, New Orleans, and Honolulu are the only other major cities worth displaying to the world.

I don't think they would ever consider Miami since it would take place right smack in the middle of Hurricane season. Miami does have the infrastructure to host the Olympics though.
