I want a town that is at least 1 hour and 30 minutes from any Walmart or chain store, or any grocery store that is a chain store. Gas stations don't matter, I know of Ely, Nevada but any other town? Also please make sure it has a hospital. Thank you so much.

A town with a hospital but no chain stores? Good luck with that!

There are a couple of towns in Minnesota that have no chain supermarkets or chain stores, have hospitals, and are farther than an hour and a half from the nearest town offering any kind of chain retail. Coincidentally, both are very granola/hippie/liberal towns:

Grand Marais: beautiful artist/environmentalist community on the North Shore of Lake Superior

Ely: Northernmost town on the Iron Range and gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, also contains lots of hippie types

Both of these places are clogged with tourists in the summer.

This is the closest I could find in NY, as it is about an hour from a Wal*Mart, but it does have a hospital and a non chain grocery store: Star Lake, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ocracoke Island North Carolina. 2 hour by ferry to get to any major stores, shopping... Has mom and pop stores only on island. 1 gas station, 14 restaurants (all resident owned), 1 radio station (plays quite the variety). About 500 residence live there year round. During tourist season the number goes up to almost 1000.

Any city on the Hawaiian Island of Molokai. Has a hospital, but need to ferry to Maui for a Walmart.

Bishop, CA, but I think it has a K-Mart.

Lone Pine, CA, which only has a non-chain grocery store.

Maybe Redfield, SD? It's about 70 miles from the nearest community with a real chain store (I think it has an ALCO, which is technically a chain, but it's not a national one by any stretch).

Haha, nope, Trona has Ridgecrest's Wal-Mart within 25 minutes.

We had Tronites that commuted in to work at the Albertson's I worked at. They are an interesting bunch.
