Most exotic and different US state (best school, best, golf)

Well if you don't want this to be based sandy beaches or volcanoes (you could of just said besides Hawaii lol) then I'm going to say Alaska. A lot of people don't realize its the farthest point east in the U.S., it's partly in the Arctic Circle, the international date line was shifted to accommodate the Aleutian islands, it contains the highest point in the U.S., its coastline is 4 times the length of Florida....I could go on
LOL, that's why I thought Hawaii was ruled out as an answer.
Alaska and Hawaii take this. No state in the lower 48 is as exotic as those. For the lower 48, I would have to say places like Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and the Dakotas.
Florida. One of the few places that really incorporates Caribbean architecture into it's urban areas. Pastel colors, White-top roofs, than you got the Spanish Revival(but this is also common in the Southwest/California).
Look, I like Tennessee but there's nothing "exotic" about it (except maybe Dolly Parton's chest).
