The Dakotas(cold and boring)
Montana(grew up there, got bored of it)
Wyoming(same with the Dakotas and Montana)
Most of the deep south(poverty and crime)
Detroit(lots of problems)
I would say Idaho too but I currently live there, but want to leave as soon as possible because it's also boring.
San Francisco and Portland. Those are literally the only cities in the U.S. I would ever refuse to move to. If there's anything I hate more than liberalism, it's extreme liberalism. Even if the politics weren't the same, the people in those cities are downright rude and nasty. They have no sense of kindness or respect. If I lived there, I would be in a fight everyday.
I think this definitely explains my dislike of those two cities. Seattle even doesn't seem as Far Left as those two.
I used to travel quite a bit in my corporate life so I am lucky I've has a chance to see many US cities. I would not be happy in:
All of TX except Austin
The Midwest
Steel Belt areas of PA and Western NY
Most of the South
Anywhere in KS/NE/SD/ND/AR/OK
Phoenix AZ
Las Vegas NV
Baltimore MD
Providence RI
Hartford CT
Anchorage AK
Honolulu HI
Doesn't leave a lot but I'm glad to live in a country with so many places to go that I could still be happy somewhere.
And yet you say it includes Chicago. I'm from Ohio, my mom is actually from Euclid. I still consider Cleveland Midwestern. I don't know what the cutoff for "upper" is but Cleveland is most certainly Midwestern despite some wishing it were part of the Atlantic region.
Either way, this is your list and if you're happy in Cleveland, great! I have nothing against Cleveland but I love the Midwest.
Ive always wondered exactly where the Midwest ends and begins...thoughts?

Some people say that Pittsburgh is the eastern "terminus" of the midwest and Denver is the western one. Having lived in both, and also in the midwest, my definitive answer is, "I don't know"!
(This has been discussed extensively on the forums of CD, especially Pittsburgh.)
