hahaha. That's the problem with Florida. That is why there are a lot of Florida cheerleaders.

Texas by far. New Jersey pride is just a typical self esteem reaction to negative comments by the rest of the country. Texas pride is different.

I disagree with this idea of "50 wonderful states...". I call BS. The people in the South despise the people in blue states, and progressives feel the same way. We are stuck in an untenable and ungovernable nation. Time to break it up and move on.

Yeah, wonderful all right. We hate each other. This from a Texas poster about the US:

Red states generally think freedom means freedom FROM government, but blue states think freedom COMES from government. You can't ever reconcile that.

The reality is that the USA is an artificially united country at this point. Different geographic regions share few of the same cultural, economic and political values. This is made clear every day by the complete dysfunction in Washington DC. We really should be at least 2 (but probably 3 or more) countries. We will never solve our differences and I hope that we realize that and split amicably before there is bloodshed.

All that said, do I think there will be secession anytime soon? Probably not, though eventually I think it's inevitable. Still, I personally don't consider someone from California or New Jersey to be my fellow countryman, and I don't feel any worse for them when something bad happens than I would someone from China or Argentina.

If Americas prosperity ends because of our debt our nation may be in jeopardy. I agree with you that we are so divided that our nation is untenable and ungovernable. What you suggest should happen may be our future. I could see both sides blaming each other for what happened following a economic collapse, followed by secession of one side from the union. Replay 1861, not a good future for our nation any way you look at it. The only way to make our union tenable and governable is to fall back on our bill of rights. Allow the 10th amendment to show us a way out, blue states should be allowed to be as socialist and progressive as they want (and can pay for) while red ones allowed to be as traditional and small government as they see fit. No federal tyranny forcing its will on the states, allow the people to govern themselves locally. This is the only way the socialist liberals in the Northeast and the conservatives in the south and west to be happily united in a national union. Our founding fathers were brilliant, we only have gone off the rails because we got away from their values and the founding documents.

You believe in a nation of 50 sovereign independent republics, which is really no nation at all. What is the point of a "nation" if the central govt has no authority? It is pointless, and we may as well go our separate ways.

New Orleans I think(or it may have been the state) ranked number 6 in the country for business. City of Lafayette which is growing very fast and Baton Rouge has just started the IBM development. New Orleans is back and even better and has so much development going on everywhere. Major projects everywhere you turn. Not to mention the state loves its sports. LSU, the Saints, Hornets. This would not be possible if it wasn't for the people here. We love the good the bad and the ugly of Louisiana. It's a great place no matter what the negative stats say and the people who like to group it with Mississippi(no offense) for being down in the dumps.

How much money has your state gotten from the US Fed Govt to rebuild after Katrina? A ton I'm sure. Yet the people there loathe and despise the Fed Govt.

Mississippi got billions, yet I'm sure a majority there support secession. Go figure.

No I support a nation of 50 semi sovereign states. Our constitution grants the federal government the power to conduct diplomacy and war, the power to regulate interstate commerce, the power to coin money, the power to raise an army and the authority to enforce the rights granted in the constitution. What our founding fathers intended was a loose federal union of more powerful states. This worked for decades before the issue of slavery drove the more powerful northern states to attempt to use the federal government to force southern states to submit on that issue. The resulting war and northern victory destroyed states rights and ushered in an era of powerful federal government that has had runaway power for 150 years now. Each generation has increased its power and asked more of it, and now its in your business everyday, and we are 17 trillion in debt. The party is finally over.
