I just moved from Denver to Chicago a couple months ago.

Denver is an awesome city. It's big (and in many ways, feels bigger than it is), and has all of the amenities of many larger cities, but hasn't yet become so large that it's unmanagable. Denver is also very gay friendly and progressive.

I've also loved San Diego and Seattle during the time I've spend in those cities on trips. I'm not a really big fan of Austin however. For Texas, it's expensive and it's WAY over-rated in my opinion. If I had to live in Texas, I'd choose Houston over Austin in a heartbeat.

I second the vote for Louisville! It is really up and coming and a very gay friendly area. True, it is smaller than the cities listed, but one could literally live in a very upscale place in Louisville for 1/3 the cost of the other listed cities and fly to visit the other cities all the time!

At the very least, at least come visit Louisville's new gay urban hotel opening soon:

And also check out the connection night club, big bar, and nowhere bar, which are all located in vibrant urban strips.

Also, the 21C is a great artsy, gay friendly hotel.
