Oakland had 145 murders in 2006, so I wouldn't be calling it paradise. The city has a problem and the mayors should fix it, not complain.

The mayor should do both. In fact he will have a much harder time accomplishing anything when people keep harping on his city. He is justified to complain for the same reason that so many colleges don't give their stats to Newsweek. These publications put what is actually pretty fluid data into rigid formulas to produce numbers that are ultimately meaningless.
Take Saint Louis; if a 10 square mile area of the city was given to Illinois, Saint Louis would be one of the statistically safest cities in the country and I doubt that the rest of the city would miss that area and the associated stigma. Actually, they would hardly notice in theory.

Oakland has 1 mayor and 90% all of the murders there are bad guys killing other bad guys-its not pretty, but maybe theyre doing to each other what law enforcement cant? I say lemme buy the next round of bullets. LOL

Hey, that is what LA says too. Just let the gangs kill each other off. It is a possible, but cruel solution. Unfortunatly, inocent people that are not gang affiliated get killed occasionaly.

I'll be honest, that line: most people would prefer to have their car stolen than to be murdered gave me a chuckle. I don't think anyone ever prefers to be murdered. Understatement doesn't quite explain it
