I think if you compare them to what state you get different political views.

People in the North West part of the US are more socially liberal where the north east are more academic liberal. Being Portland Oregon more Hippies and Hipsters. And Seattle more grunge and rock bands.More free love and drug use.

Well Boston more liberal young youth. If you won't to do drugs go to North West part of the US .

Also pot is legalized there. Well the South West are very conservative some places just as conservative as south east.

Most liberal cities:

1 - Seattle, Boston, San Francisco
2 - Los Angeles, Portland, NYC (would be higher if not for Staten Island)
3 - DC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami (?), Austin (?)

Can't speak about conservative cities since there are relatively few of them, perhaps some in the Oklahoma, Kentucky, or West Virginia.

I found Boston to be one of the most racist places I've ever visited...it is liberal in some ways, but obviously not in others.

I don't think Austin is very liberal. Is it?

The huge university adds a lot of liberalism to Austin. I would guess it's the most liberal-minded city in Texas.

Just because college or university is liberal does not make the city liberal.

I didn't say that it makes the city liberal, I said that it adds a lot of liberalism to the city. Two different statements.

It depends on your definition of liberal. To be honest, I have never (not once in my life) heard an African-American refer to Austin as liberal or progressive. However, every single other racial group thinks its extremely liberal. I guess different groups have different ideas about liberal.

I could be wrong but liberalism in Austin seems negligible on a national scale with places like SF/Portland/Boston, why mention it?
