I found that the people in New York City to be quite short. But I don't know if race and ethnicity is the cause. It seems like the Irish guys in Boston and NYC are shorter than the Irish guys in Chicago.
It's maybe because in the Northeast, Irish people tend to mix with Italians and French who are shorter while in the Midwest they're mixed with Germans and Scandinavians.
I get the feeling that the shortest is Hawaii. I don't think native Hawaiians are that tall, and they also have a large Japanese American population that is generally short.

According to the last census, there were only 80,000 full-blooded Native Hawaiians left. Their population collapsed due to plagues nearly 100 years ago, and Asians (mainly Japanese and Filipino, and some Chinese and Korean) began moving to work on the plantations soon after. Hawaii is also 8.8% Hispanic (people tend to forget this) with a long-standing Puerto Rican community and a more recent Mexican community.
The majority of people in Hawaii today are very mixed between different Asian backgrounds and some white ancestry, and do tend to be on the short side.
The tallest countries are Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, so I would say a state in the Upper Midwest where most people are of Scandinavian and Dutch ancestry (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan and the Dakotas)
Utah too, I have noticed most of mormons from that state tend to be quite tall.

How many of those Irish are really of fully Irish ancestry? There are many Irish-Italian mixes in north east and Irish seem to be a fancy ancestry to claim, even people who are 1/4 Irish or less seem to be likely to claim being Irish lol.
"I would expect that North Dakota is taller than Minnesota (more Scandinavian)" I wanted to reply to the person that posted this comment because it's totally incaccurate. Minnesota has the most scandinavian ancestry in the nation per capita. California is close in sheer number, can't remember if they have more; but I know for a fact that Minnesota outranks any other state percentage-wise--and they're (we're) a proud group to be of this heritage. I must add, German, Irish, and Scandinavian makes for a very attractive people also

Not sure about Utah, but I definitely would list Upper Midwestern states due to the ancestry and what I've seen as I've travelled.
