As we get into the Thanksgiving/Christmas travel season, I've been thinking about where holiday traffic might be the worst, based on the areas with the most family connections which would mean more traffic between one another. I personally will be driving from Charleston, West Virginia to Baltimore, Maryland. You do think about where you might meet the most traffic....for example I think many people travel between Pittsburgh and Baltimore so the shared highways might be gridlocked.
So which cities/regions have the most family connections????/ Here are some I came up with.
Baltimore with Pittsburgh/Western Pennsylvania/West Virginia- Many people in the Baltimore area have family connections with these places. A lot of people migrated to Baltimore one generation ago to work in the steel plants and car factories in Baltimore. This is one of the examples of historical migration that have created lots of family vacations, and I personally know a lot of between travelling between Baltimore and West Virginia or Western Pennsylvania for the holidays.
Some others.......
- Los Angeles and Las Vegas
- Los Angeles and Phoenix
- Los Angeles and Salt Lake City - all these due to recent migration patterns and the Cailfornia exodus
- New York City area and the Washington DC area
- North Carolina cities with Baltimore, Washington DC, New York, and Philadelphia
- Florida cities and places all over the Northeast and Midwest but particularly NY/NJ and Chicago
- New York City and Boston?
Location: northern Vermont - previously NM, WA, & MA

I'll be heading back to Boston this Christmas. I enjoy living out here, but I always get a little melancholy and homesick this time of year as my holiday traditions are deeply rooted in New England.
I don't think there are that many connections between Boston and New Mexico so that's interesting. The cities with lots of family connections between one another would see a lot of traffic on the highways in between. I lived around Baltimore for a long time and while Philadelphia is closer, a lot more people have family connections to western Pennsylvania and West Virginia than to eastern PA or New Jersey. I think Baltimore and Pittsburgh seem to have lots of connections, along with with West Virginia. I'm expecting the stretch of Interstate 70 west of Baltimore to be very bad over the holidays.
A lot of people travel between New York and the DC area, the two centers of the power elite.
