I have no doubts that there is some tension between NYC and New York State, but I don't think the divide is quite as large as that of Chicago and the rest of Illinois.
Most people downstate live in central Illinois, which has more in common with Indiana or Iowa. Some have connections to St. Louis. They have virtually nothing in common with Kentucky or Tennessee except for the minuscule population that lives in far southern Illinois.

I'd say Denver. If I'm not mistaken, portions of Colorado wanted to secede from the rest of the state due to the politics in Denver

Agreed, but the red dominates the physical landscape in TX.

However, we are a gov't of the people, and not of the land mass..

Yes, as central Illinois contains Champaign-Urbana, Boomington, Peoria, Decatur, etc, while southern IL has little outside of Carbondale and the St. Louis suburbs..

I believe that the Chicago metro area contains about 70% of the state's population, though..

You hear that crap everywhere really. Red rural areas and the blue urban ones.

I think it's close to a 60:40 split (the metro spills into WI and IN), making it similar to population splits like MN, GA and MA.

I believe I said I wouldn't get all of them, that is why I left an "Other" option. Also, please tell me what state D.C. is in?

This is true. Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio all have democratic mayors if I'm not mistaken and these districts usually go blue or at the very least extremely close. The rest of Texas is pretty red.

Boston should not be on the poll, anyway. The city is very blue, while the state on the whole is only a little less blue....
