Out of this list, probably South Carolina. I'm not sure, but I think it had a pretty major role in the Civil War.

The civil war and Charleston was a major port of entry in the slave trade. The old slave market that once auction slaves still stands today.

I agree about South Carolina

But in addition to the Civil War, South Carolina was also important during the American Revolutionary War (the famous South Carolina flag is based on Revolutionary events Flag of South Carolina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ). This is part of what IMO pushes it ahead of Tennessee (which also has a lot of Civil War history).

Of the 50 states, I'd pick Hawaii. Its history is pretty far outside the mainstream of the American continent, let alone the other states.
