I have generally gotten the impression that the East coast is more strict/less casual about dressing up for work than the West coast, especially California.

Also, I notice in warmer places, the dress code is more casual than in colder places.

I hear Hawaii, with its culture of loose fitting, comfortable shirts and muumuus, and wearing flip flops rather than dress shoes and heels, is the most casual of them all, almost a polar opposite from say, the streets of busy downtown Manhattan.

What are your thoughts?

Austin Texas is pretty much a "come as you are" kind of place.I never heard of anybody in Austin not being admitted or getting kicked out of a place because of the way they were dressed. I seriusly doubt if thers a town of any size in the United States with a more relaxed dress code than Austin.

I can't say the same about Dallas. Back in the Mid 1980's me and a friend of mine drove from Austin to Dallas and we went to club in a strip center in The Village off Lovers Lane and they refused to admit us because of the way we were dressed. We had on blue jeans and t shirts and I think tennis shoes or boots. I didn't see anything at all wrong with the way we was dressed, but apparently we weren't dressed up enough.

We left and went to a club in Arlington where we were presentable.
