Hi thinking about taking a job in Portland Oregon, we are in the food and wine biz. Moving from Sunny Southern California so a bit nervous about the move. Would really like some help narrowing it down. Here are some of the things we will be considering while looking.

40 hip professional couple- looking for cute quaint towns that are close to bigger cities with culture, some night life coffee and wine bars ect.

Taxes is an issue, we have an internet on-line company we drop ship from our house, so for tax purposes I was thinking oregon, But we also want to buy a house in the 400-500 range. I have also heard that Vancover WA in general is better on all tax breaks, can someone explain this? and for our purposes what woudl be better. We are in a tax bracket of 100k plus per year. We also dont want to drive/comute more than 30-45 minutes to the downtown porltand area.

Someplace that is not super rainy (haha don't laugh or give me a lecture), we like mist and fog better, slight drizzle okay, as many sunnier days as possible to ease us into the weather change... someone had suggested sandy, willamette valley, dundee, Lake oswego, sherwood.. west Linn? any others? maybe a best kept secret or one that is still growing?

prefer lots of greenery and much foliage near forst or enclosed by trees and greenery

Would also like to be by a lake, river, water ect.

Looking for at least 1/2 acre up to 3 acres.

Near Golf courses- my husband is an avid golfer

we are a younger hippish cool artsy couple, we would be called Yuppy's but also dig down to earth boho chic and somewhat urban lifestyle- we lived in OJAI calif..

Any suggestions on towns, cities or countys to look in would be greatly appreciated! Moving in April/May.

Thanks for your help..I read the all the forums and I needed more specific information about our situation..

Try posting in the Oregon forum. You'll get lots of responses!

About Vancouver, WA: If you're trying to avoid sales tax, you might reconsider. OR has no sales tax. WA has no income tax, but does have a sales tax that might adversely affect your company's bottom line. The tax rate varies across the state as there are many tax districts. And the commute from Vancouver to Portland can be brutal depending on the time of day.

None of the places suggested to you will be rain-free. If they were, they certainly wouldn't be as green!

Good luck in your search
