In Northern VA it looks like Winter today. Grass is completely brown, piles of dirty snow all over, and no sign of flowers, budding or any type of greenery.
How about where you live, is there any physical sign of Spring yet? Report in!
I'd say in Central MD, VERY early spring. By that I mean the last patch of snow in my yard melted today and there are a few small areas that have a tiny amount of green, plus there are tulip/crocus/hyacinth/daffodil bulbs that are up in my hard, but not yet blooming (though I did see a daffodil bloom just south of me on my commute home from work yesterday). No leaves or even green buds yet. Definitely about two weeks behind schedule for my area, as it normally starts to feel a bit like spring a couple weeks before the equinox at my area. Generally speaking, spring has the greatest variability of appearances (especially during the first half of the season) depending on weather conditions. At this time in 2012, it was unusually warm and looked more typical for mid-April with fully green grass and trees starting to leaf out! 2013 was similar to 2014 so far due to the cold March that even had snow the final week of the month which is pretty rare for us, but caught up to normal due to a very warm spell in early April. There is a chance that in a week a warmer pattern may develop, but right not it doesn't look to get as warm as it did last year, though of course that could change. Looking at the Trafficland cameras, it looks like you have to go all the way down to Southern North Carolina/South Carolina/Georgia to get a more springy appearance (and even there it's still early-mid spring with grass mostly green and trees with buds but not yet in leaf. The I-85 at Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte does show the Bradford Pears in bloom (looks like about two weeks away for us in MD). I like how in the spring it's opposite the progression you see in the fall, with the southern states getting more attention since that's where spring comes first, with the far northern states getting overlooked as the rest of country starts to transition to summertime. The equivalent of "peak fall color" in the spring corresponds to the trees about half leaved in that bright green color around the time the Tulips are peaking, the dogwoods beginning to bloom, the redbuds and crabapples in full bloom, along with the later-blooming daffodils. Those areas I described above that are getting more springy are sort of in that "patchy color" phase right now and around two weeks from peak.
I'll know when I have to get my inhaler ready. Don't wash you car in spring in Atlanta, there's no use.
HAHA I feel you. But yeah, things are blooming in Atlanta...Pear trees, Forsythia, Tulip trees and of course, Jonquils.
As far as the Island, the Azaleas are arriving.
Have had a couple days in the high 50's & low 60's. Hoping Spring has sprung...Daffodil, red bud,
wild cherry & Bradford pear trees are blooming. Folks are tilling gardens to take advantage of the approaching spring rains. Ready for spring & summer.....it has been a long & WEIRD winter.
Spring was in the air for a few weeks now down here. A redtip in my backyard and these flowers all over my front yard, 77 and sunny today. Sumter,sc
