What exactly is hard about OKC. The city seemed very safe to me.
Your right as L.A. is no joke. It's probably the only West Coast city that could hold its own against cities in the Northeast when it comes to toughness. I will say that L.A. is a tougher city than Houston. Even L.A. gangs like the Bloods and Surenos were able to come in and have a huge influence on Houston street gangs. As for Houston's gang culture influencing Los Angeles, not so much.
Well to be fair, LA gangs had influence in many cities. Particularly the cities west if the Mississippi. But there's lots of connections between Houston and Los Angeles Blacks and Mexicans so that shouldn't come to a surprise. I do agree that LA was a tougher city back then.
Yeah, but the early 1990s seemed to be the worst period for a lot of American cities when it came to crime rates. I think a lot of it was the introduction of crack in the mid-1980s. But, yes, the eighties was pretty bad too.
Yeah 1990-1992 was the peak for most cities with 1991 probably being the worse outright. 1993 is when things began to calm down in US cities not named New Orleans.
The peak for the Twin Cities was 1996. There were 97 homicides in Minneapolis and 42 in St Paul, now both are down to about a third of that number. I was poor so I lived in Frogtown in St Paul back then, which was a place you didn't want to be. Most of those 42 were within a mile of my apartment. I saw some things I never want to see again. People throwing their lives away for nothing. Not a good year.

It's in the Top 20 cities (250k+ pop.) in the US with the highest crime rate (Homicide, Rape, Burglary and Motor Vehicle Theft).
Maybe it's because of the tornadoes.

If that's your criteria, then that doesn't explain why Orlando or Fort Lauderdale are softer than Tampa since Tampa has lower crime rates than most of Florida's major cities, including Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Although, Tampa did have Mafia activity back in the days. But I would believe Fort Lauderdale did too (especially since Broward County has a lot of Italians). Fort Lauderdale was also a big player in the 80s cocaine days, more so than Tampa.

How many people would the mob represent in any city?
Montreal has the most active Sicilian Mafia left outside of maybe New York City in North America, yet to people on here Montreal would be considered soft because they don't have a high number of ghetto youth shooting at each other on a daily basis.
