I understand that suburbs are generally notorious for being car centric and unfriendly to pedestrians with wide avenues, little to no sidewalks, and plenty of stoplights.

However, there are some suburbs out there that are reinventing the definition of suburb. One that I am somewhat familiar with is Carmel Indiana, just outside of Indianapolis, it's received national praise several times over for what they are doing there.

Not from Carmel, but I am originally from Indiana, but here are some links to Carmel.

Some pictures of Carmel.

Also, Carmel is reinventing their city streets and intersections, adding roundabouts inside the city. Believe in the video they said they replaced almost 80% of the city's stoplights with roundabouts, which decrease traffic accidents, decrease gas consumption, increase visual appeal, and increase traffic flow.

Here's a short cheesy kind of video showcasing Carmel.

So I am curious, what suburban cities do you think are the most walkable and pedestrian friendly? Please share, comment, and explain!

There are plenty of suburbs in Northeastern metros that are walkable due to being built around a town/village/city center. You can find these in other regions as well, if it is a suburb that existed as one of those entities mentioned, pre WW2.

Can you name any? I'd be interested in Google mapping them, just to see.

You can pick literally any metro in the Northeast and find what you are looking for. Look up the Rivertowns of Westchester County, NY, Nyack NY, the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia, Brookline MA and many a suburban village/communities in Upstate NY metros(East Aurora, Pittsford, Fayetteville, Delmar, etc), among others.
