Hey everyone,

Thank you for reading this post.

I am having a dilemma here. My boyfriend is from Panama City, Panama and absolutely loves, loves, loves it there. Unfortunately, he has been living here in Raleigh for several years and has not taken to the US. I don't want him to have the idea that all of US is like Raleigh and I am absolutely willing to move b/c quite frankly, I'm not a big fan of Raleigh either. I cannot move to Panama at this time so that is not an option.

Can someone please share with me some great affordable cities within the US (warm climate) where we can find it close to where he is from. What he loves most is being able to walk everywhere, the nonstop activity, the friendly community with each other, and soccer. I actually love all of those things as well, with the exception of soccer (that's not my thing lol), but I also need to feel comfortably safe. I grew up not far from NYC so I'm not scared of cities, but I want to be comfortable.

I work in finance and he works with athletics (soccer).

I do hope I can find assistance from you all.

Thank you so much for your help!

Amanda

You should move to Miami (Brickell or South Beach).

This would be an option. But the OP would need to consider that both of those places aren't that affordable.

Perhaps San Juan, Puerto Rico? You won't need to change citizenship as a US citizen. Otherwise beyond Miami and San Diego I can't think of any other cities, and neither of those options is "affordable".

Miami is the closest you're going to get.

It won't have anything like Panama City's historic district. It is also a far larger and more expensive city, which alters the social character of who lives where and changes costs to live in certain areas.

I would have to agree on Miami. Large city, large Latin population and humid weather.

Or you can venture to LA . It's pretty nice out here.

Mexican culture is very prevalent in the US, but since the specific request was for a more Central American feel to the city, that basically means Miami is the answer. It's the only place in the US that has Central Americans in large enough numbers that it feels like being immersed in that culture.

That was my first thought as well!

(Note to OP: we're joking. The only thing they have in common, AFAIK, is their name. Miami is the place for you.)
