We plan to drive from Frederick, MD to Agoura Hills, CA in a few weeks and need some advice. Since it is first time we drive across country, we plan to make a 5 day trip and along the way, we will do some sight seeings.

1) To accommodate sight seeing what route can we take and What / How places can be covered. I just did Google Maps from my location 21702 to 91301 but need some serious advice on the route that need to be taken and was searching online and found some posts which made me think, there are some nice people who offer great suggestions from their experience.

2) What are the major sight seeing spots? As we think to make it a Trip worth the while

3) How do we divide the driving to accommodate the sight seeing? For example, where to stop on 1st day, 2nd day etc.?

4) Do we reserve hotel ahead of time, OR just stop by hotel/motel along the way?

5) Any good restaurants along the way?

6) Any advice?

THANKS in advance!

Covering 2500 miles in five days isn't going to leave you much time for sight-seeing anywhere, except out the car windows. You'll basically be driving all day, then eating and sleeping at facilities near the off-ramps.

What is your mission? Is this a vacation? A relocation? A scouting trip? Why are you coming to LA?

Nice, this trip is something I want to do as well! I am in Eastern PA, so it isn't far from MD.
I've seen people take the 48 state trip, and often times started in Eastern area around us. I am going to take this 48 trip, and record it on video. I'd get a sponsorship and all, even from the rental car company providing 'undercover' services, and all they do is allow me to rent the vehicles and I will pay the gas. My personal car has 225,000 miles on it. Sure, it's in great condition, but I am not taking chances.

So looking this 48 state trip is interesting.

Personally I would take a long drive down State Route 1 in California.
A few guys did the 48 state trip, and the pictures from State Route are amazing.

Other advice, just go out and do it. Don't over-think this too much. Sure, be precautious about certain things, but let the drive take you to wherever. When you're tired, pull off the highway and find a hotel. Most, if not all, have desks that are always open. Trips happen at night and I've seen LOTS of truck drivers and RV owners (yes, believe it or not) go to a hotel at night.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply, Gurbie.

I checked on Google Maps, Yes it close to 3000 Miles. I also thought so, but to keep myself in good spirit, I would like to go on a route which atleast provides a good sight-seeing that more experienced drivers are aware of as I am a newbie to this long driving from coast to coast

Appreciate if someone can please help me give the route details ... I am prepared to drive most of the day

BTW, This is a Relocation.
