IMHO, Pittsburgh is less on the radar in terms of major transportation routes to the large cities than Cleveland. Cleveland just feels more connected than either Columbus or Pittsburgh, especially Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is sort of isolated, due in part to its location in a relatively mountainous region. Cleveland has 3-4 minor cities in its immediate region, and is an easy hop on interstates to access any of the major Midwest and Great Lakes cities. The East Coast might be a little further, but not by much.
You are such a Cleveland booster. Its kind of sad actually; you think Cleveland is the center of the universe; sorry it isn't.

No, I don't think Cleveland is the center of the universe, but I do think it's more connected than Pittsburgh. Sorry if I try to dispel the myths that Cleveland is a depressed dump. I guess that makes me a booster. In reality, I just love my city, and am sick of the uninformed negativity many people have about it, so I try to spread the word about what's going on here.
Because 500 is a benchmark number, just like 100 and 1,000. Even the Romans appreciated it as a benchmark, since they gave 500 its own numeral.
In general anything that's 'strategic' is based around real world application of targeted application, not abstract pretty numbers. Why do car-makers describe rate of acceleration 0-60? Because 60 is an approximator of standard highway speeds.
Surely you wouldn't suggest that 0-100 would be a better range, even though 100 is clearly a nicer number than 60.
I don't understand why you'd want to be located near most of the US population.
