Hello,
I'm planning on moving, where to? I still have no idea. I have selected a few states that I fancy myself and would like some help on deciding on which one best meets my needs.

I'm coming from the heart of Chicago, I'm 22 years old Black professional in the I.T field, I'm a musician, and I'm also looking for a more slower pace of life than what I currently have here in Chicago.
Things I'm looking for...
Warm dry weather, Decent scenery - Mountains would be nice, Lower average cost of living than Chicago, A decent/normal economy, and a lovely pick of woman.. I'm not to big on the "Liberal" thing either so I don't mind living amongst a more conservative population. I also plan on buying land and Homesteading in the future.

Places I've been looking at
-South Carolina
-Florida
-Nevada
-Oregon
-Denver

Thank you guys,
*Underlying thoughts: I'm also looking to escape mainstream society and live a more simpler life*

Salt Lake City may actually work. Colorado Springs also would work.

Yeah just did a brief research, those do sound really nice. Would the people in those areas be welcoming to a Black person?

I think I'd scratch FL and SC if you're looking for dry weather.

NM and AZ would fit your needs. Another city which is not recommended enough here is Sacramento. It is not too large and expensive as the other California cities and has sunny, dry weather.

There are Black communities in each of those areas/states. So, I don't see why not. I'd even add Cheyenne WY as well.

I'm surprised no one here has suggested Tucson because it sounds exactly like what the OP is looking for--low COL; laid-back/slow-paced; libertarian/live-and-let-live vibe; warm, dry, sunny weather; panoramic mountain views; plenty of nonstop flights to Chicago (one of the few cities with reliable nonstop airline service to/from Tucson); artsy/creative vibe, esp. in the 4th Ave. area, to nurture the OP's creative side; plenty of wide-open space on the edge/outside the urbanized area; and although a generally lousy economy, a relatively strong IT sector.

Some major Tucson area IT employers include Sunquest, Ventana, Intuit, Oracle, Texas Instruments, et al.

FWIW, there are lots and lots of well-adjusted Chicago area transplants that call Tucson home.
