Mid 30's and moving to East Coast from UK (crime rates, home)

A job has come up with my company and looking to move to the East coast US from the UK.Wonder if anyone has some sensible suggestions as the best place to locate too. It's a work from home job but requires eastern seaboard and near an international airport ( hour drive or so)I personally do not want to be too far from a decent beach , like a bit of night life occasionally but do not like long drawn out dull cold winters (i.e the UK !!) . Doesnt have to be a major city, a large town /small city would be fine just as long as average crime rates are low and decent shopping can be had locally. Friendly welcoming type people would be a good idea !! A kind of a far enough away from it but close enough when you need it type place. I think Florida is a bit too far south and Boston / Philly too far north.Raleigh has been suggested , would like to hear comments on this place and surrounding area Many thanks

I have all been taught that the Eastern Seaboard, is the central East Coast. So in my view, that would be from New York City down to Wilmington, NY. If you want to be by the beach, then Raleigh might not be a very good option (sure locals would argue) of course if thats not a neccesity, then it is a very well rounded city. I thought, Glen Allen, VA was a nice place but its host city of Richmond has high crime. The actual city of Glen Allen, is a modern suburb and is within distance to the capitol in DC, and Norfolk. I have heard parts of Deleware are also real nice.
I' suggest somewhere in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia or Charleston, South Carolina. Both have an international airport and are close to the beach. Charleston is pretty expensive, so you might want to move to the suburbs. Hampton Roads area I'm not so sure. The core city, Norfolk, has a high crime rate, but is considerably affordable than most of the area. Raleigh is a good choice too, but it will be quite a drive to the beach.
sorry about the seaboard thing .. just assumed it meant eastern coastal ?!?
There are varying definitions, it all depends on what your companys definition is . Chances are my teachers in the Great Lakes did not know what they were talking about.
