Every once in awhile we get questions from people who just want to pick up and move somewhere new... some place they can start a business, because they're tired of working in the corporate jungle. And of course, they need someplace inexpensive, since they'll be starting a business.

Now usually I think these posts are full of baloney... but OTOH, it's still an interesting general topic.

So, speaking hypothetically, what would you recommend?

If I was in this situation, I think I would move near to one of those mega-sized retirement villages and provide some service to the people who live there. My parents used to live in Hot Springs Village, AR (a wonderful place, by the way) and they would have loved to have a few more stores outside the village... and especially some enterprising young person who could fix computers and build home theater systems.

Any other ideas?

Since we're being hypothetical, make up whatever answer works for you.

Good areas. Any particular small business you'd recommend? Maybe running a baby boutique in Salt Lake City (since mormons love big families)? Or maybe running a liquor store there--becuase they don't really have that many?

Fairfield Glade, Tennessee could certainly use some businesses if they would let anyone come there. We had to buy milk, etc. at a Dollar General or some kind of dollar store. That is a beautiful part of Tennessee, but the business door should be wide open, because I saw a definite need. They may think differently though.
