I could not find something similar for the US, but it gives an overview of the problems caused by the long distance conveyance of water. Of course, for the US there would be even more challenges due to having greater elevation differences than the relatively flat Australia.

The existing solar panel farms in the So Ca desert are starting to cause problems with the death of birds being fried, tortoises and other wildlife impacted and the blinding glare affecting aircraft pilots. But theres more.
