One difference is that the average Jamaican meal tends to be much more healthy and includes many more fresh fruits and veggies.
I dunno -my average southern meal includes fresh squash, vine ripened tomatoes, collard greens and black eyed peas...or okra, potatoes, cabbage, sweet corn, turnips and turnip greens, etc etc. Growing up in the south, we always had plenty of fresh veggies. Oh and I nearly forgot - peaches, blackberries, watermelons, cantalopes, muscadines, plums, pears, strawberries, pomegranates, persimmons, etc. Oh, and sassafrass tea.

The point is that Southern Fried Chicken is the best and most prominent example of that food for a reason.
I don't know and I never will. She was born in the 1800s and died in the 1960s. She did raise chickens in the 1930s and '40s when there were food shortages. I assume that's when she learned how to fry chicken.
I guess there were some people who moved to my home town during the Great Migration, but I never met them. We were: Irish, Welsh, German, Italian, Polish, Russian, Lithuanian...

A great one for sure. I'll have to raise a glass and tip the hat to ol' Truett.
