What do you think is overall worse, the "wet" cold you find in the Pacific Northwest or the "dry cold" you'd find somewhere like Colorado or Kansas? The wet cold is warmer in actuality but has more dampness and less radiant heat from the sun.

Misread the question and voted the snowy 29F.

Having lived in Montana, I can attest that dryness helps a lot. I also think elevation helps, due to the higher sun intensity at high elevations. Northern California at 55F feels as bad as Montana at 35F, to me.

Wet cold feels worse for me, it also looks worse unless you're in the middle of a forest.

Colorado and Kansas warms up. The PNW never warms up. The question should be, Do you prefer a wet and cold climate 24/7 or do you like change?

Winter is generally quite dry in the coldest areas (like mine) of the country - not just CO/KS/out west.

I voted for 29 & snowy vs 40 and wet, but I'll take 40 and wet over anything under 15 or so.

I prefer the dry cold over wet cold of the interior west and midwest over the PNW anyday.

Being wet and cold makes any type of outdoor activity miserable.

wet cold makes it 10C degrees colder.

A humid 40F (5C) with cloudy/raining sky feels a lot more miserable than a 29F (-2C) sunny but chilly winter day.

My personal experience shows that 32F (0C) under high humidity feels as cold as 14F (-10C).

Dry cold is better without a doubt. I took a trip to Michigan during winter, when I left Tennessee it was 60 degrees. I did not think, left on my short sleeve shirt and had winter gear packed in back. I stopped for gas in KY where it was still 55 de grees and drove on a full tank all the way to the Detroit Mi area. When I stepped out of the car I almost got back in a turned back south. It was 33 and damp, well just plain cold to the bone miserable. Damp cold really is awful. I spent the night in a hotel and finished my trip to the top of Northern Michigan, where it was a cold dry 5 degrees. There was also 3 feet of snow on the ground. My son was amazed by that. That cold really was not that bad, it did not feel nearly as cold as Detroits damp 33 degrees. I vote for dry cold being much better.

Wet cold feels to cold for me and uncomfortable. Even if I wear woolen tops with coat I still feel cold.
