While 'best' is purely subjective, there are some factors that are not, such as the Clean Factor. So unfortunately Coney Island is disqualified
You could include Venice Beach in that category as well. Full of homeless, druggies, hippies, stoners, drunks, hoes, run-aways, etc.
And Miami beach and South beach aint much better; with gay men, homeless, drugs, etc.
Coney Island is a must-see for anyone visiting or living in the U.S.

Coney Island is a nice place to visit from a historical point of view, nostalgic purposes, but now I honestly find it to be rundown. Much different crowd, too.
Original Nathan's stand, and restaurant standing 90 years; hot-dog eating contest;Cyclone and other rides such as spooky houses, and the new Thunderbolt;the freak show, art shows, etc.oh, and the carousel;Further down, Brighton Beach.

Florida's beaches are my favorite. But I voted for Illinois because it was on the list. I knew Florida would win. Also ....BECAUSE CHICAGO BEACHES..EVEN RIGHT DOWNTOWN.. IMPRESSED ME.

I'm not sure a hotdog stand & the new Thunderbolt are good enough enticements for "anyone visiting or living in the U.S to visit".
Coney Island is not the best beach in NYC, though if you are into urban beach development/boardwalk culture, it is worth it. But you don't have to go far from there to find that NYC has some surprising sea side strands.
Personally, my favorite beach in America, even after having lived in Hawaii and visited California and Florida is in Rhode Island. Specifically Crescent Beach on Block Island, Rhode Island.

Yeah a must see about 100 years ago. Literally.
That is when Coney Island had 3 major amusement parks; Steeplechase, Luna Park and Dreamland. Plus numerous smaller attractions. Something else too - Coney Island was all lit up at night. That must have been really something when much of rural America still did not have lights or electric of any kind.
Today, Coney is a shadow of its former self. Still fun though.
In any case this thread is about best beach which Coney Island does not have. You can see better beaches from Coney Island; the Rockaways in Queens and I think Sandy Hook in New Jersey.
