To me, it runs way under the radar. It's one of those states that just doesn't resonate much on people's mind. When you personally think of it, what do you associate it as?

Meaning, what images come to your mind?
The very first image I have when someone mentions the word "Pennsylvania" is a rolling hilly dairy farm with a forest covered hill in the distance. There is often a wooden barn painted red.

Obviously there is far more to Pennsylvania then that but the beautiful Pennsylvania farms really stand out to me.

The Radar Screen....

I agree with you about Pennsylvania being under a bit under the radar screen, especially when you consider that Pennsylvania has always been one of the populated states all the way back to 1776. Even today PA is rated #6 in population, just behind Illinois. But while Illinois has produced Presidents like Lincoln and Obama, New York has the Roosevelts, Texas has the Bushes and others, Massachusetts has the Kennedys and the Adams family - I cannot think of any President from Pennsylvania. Kind of strange considering Pennsylvania's importance, size and history.

He's the only one from PA: James Buchanan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What comes to mind is Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, historic sites, Amish, rural country side, hills, Hershey and groundhog day.

I lived in MD, upstate NY and MA, (also NC, SC, and Louisiana) and I always liked PA. It is very diverse and has a nice middle America feel to it, in a good way. MD and MA are too in your face and fast paced, the (bad) stereotypical rude northern, but PA is a nice mix of attitudes and just has a good vibe.

I think of kind but super religious people who live in mountains and think it's not unreasonable to drive some absurd distance to work.
