I have been living in Los Angeles for 5 years and it is time to leave. Unfortunately, I am having a real problem coming up with a place to relocate to. Therefore, thought I would look for some suggestions here. I understand that many of the things I like are in contrast to each other and I will have to give up something/choose what is most important.

About me:
just turned 40
single
female
no children
Health conscious but not crazy about it
Lean towards socially liberal/fiscally conservative
Prefer urban settings with ability to walk to things
Prefer green (versus brown/desert type places)
Need easy access to hiking, camping, cycling, running paths, some type of water (doesn't have to be a beach but a lake or river)
I like areas with a community feel/cohesiveness
Diverse racial area
While I despise snow and cold, I can deal with the occasional snow. I do like fall/spring/summer and I like humidity.
Population greater than 500,000

Places I have lived:
Chicago - grew up there. I LOVE the city/density, diversity. If it wasn't for the cold , I would move back there.
NYC - lived there 7 years. Too dense now/too many people and way too many tourists. I don't feel it is worth the COL now. Plus day to day living is just a pain. LOVE the diversity/walkability, etc.
Miami - lived there 2.5 years. Not walkable and no real change of seasons.
Phoenix - went to grad school - too brown and a giant suburb.
LA - Too spread out, too much traffic, lacks "energy" to me. A bit tired of no weather here. I miss some rain. Too brown. People flakey. (I do have a great group of friends though!)

So any ideas? I will refrain from putting where I had ideas to check out as I want to see what others come up with. However, not interested in CA, OR, WA and if New Orleans was a tad larger (land and population) and situated not so far from other places, I would love to move there.

Thanks!

Why does the population have to be greater than 500,000? Just curious why you chose that number. Other than that, how about Denver?

Denver, Seattle, Portland, and SF are the cities I'd recommend.

I think Boston could work, but would probably be too cold. Also Washington might be a good suggestion. Asheville, NC sounds like another place that might work.

That being said, you said nothing about your salary/what you can afford, so this is just based purely on your list of requirements. I imagine you can easily get a job anywhere?

San Francisco seems like the clear winner, except it's expensive.

Denver. Period.

3 million+ population, "big city" living. yet a 45 minute drive will have you in the middle of some of the best outdoor activities in North America. Denver is also/has been the "fittest, healthiest" city in the USA for many hears in a row now, so there's a ton of good looking women around here in yoga pants....which you might enjoy as a single man LOL

In my adult life, I've lived in DC, Charlotte, San Antonio, Seattle, and now Denver. Denver is easily the nicest place I've ever lived, and I'm never leaving here. We have friends who literally just moved here 3 days ago from Chicago, because they liked Denver more when they visited last year.

Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. The downside is the grey winter months.
