I'm surprised more folks didn't say Oklahoma was more arid. When I was working up in PA and NY most folks up there thought I was from the desert. They were always saying "I bet you are freaking out over all these tress and hills." I would day "yeah I am, reminds me of home"! LOL

Oklahoma is a great state to visit, highly underrated and has 2 great progressing cities. While they may not be on the level as Austin, Dallas, & or Houston, they are changing quickly. Also I think it's sad that people think Oklahoma as all flat, and desert like. It's 2014 and people can't google "Scenic diversity in Oklahoma" on their smartphones. Smh.

There are parts of Oklahoma that are dry (like the Panhandle or the western part). But Oklahoma also has the Ozarks and beautiful lush and green mountains.

I like Oklahoma. I love being able to get to the mountains in 3 hours.

Honestly, my thought of OK is plain, flat, and dry. So yes I would say most people who have never been there would say dust-bowlish geography.

But from okie1962's pictures it looks very beautiful.

Oklahoma has an extremely diverse terrain. Its actually one of 4 states that has at least 10 ecoregions. The climate at the SE corner is similar to Louisiana while at the NW corner its akin to the High Plains of Colorado. And the elevation is from a low of 125 feet above sea level to well over 4,000 at Black Mesa. Its a geographically long state that straddles at least 3 cultural regions in the US, and that is not including the many indian nations within its borders.

A lot of Okies probably appreciate the underrated aspect of the state; but IMO the state has not done a good job in promoting itself, and its allowed for negative and/or untrue views to form When I lived in OKC and had to entertain out of town guests either through business or pleasure, probably 90% of them would admit that they had a much more negative view of the state before the came than what they actually saw.

Oklahoma reminds me of Kentucky.. its not really the "true south" but the culture is somewhat similar to the south so people think Oklahoma is the south.. I always have been told Oklahoma is Southwest/Great Plains state.

Even here in Fort Worth, which is supposedly "the biggest conservative city in Texas" had Pride Week and a parade this past weekend.

So please, do NOT compare our states.
Well Oklahoma did get gay marriage before TX, so there's that.

Both Tulsa and OKC have fairly vibrant LGBT communites. Actually, much like TX, the cities are far more diverse than than they get credit for.

As someone with fairly deep roots in both OK and TX, trust me they are not that different. OK and the northern 1/3 of TX are pretty much indistiguishable.
