heres a little background first-
im 26 and my wife is 22, we are both from New England( me CT, her NH), and weve both been living in Ohio for school. we hate it here in lima, and were looking to move around this time next year. i am going to school for automotive, high performance, alternative fuels, and recently aquired my CDLA, while she has been in the nurse aid field for a couple years, and is going to school for business. We have done a little research of random places, but really cant figure out what we want. Were open to alot of places, but there are restrictions.
we would like a suburban or country setting with low crime, and low cost of living, with good employment rates.
so far we have been open to the idea of moving to CT, NH, NC, FL, GA, AK and a couple others..
a big no is washington and california. so what i would like is to know where you live and what its like. please help me, to help myself in gaining some experience of other places.
Too bad about rejecting California; it's the car capital of the US, not to mention it's the center for alternative fuels and the most cutting edge car development.
Charleston, SC is booming with a low unemployment rate (3.7%) and has a low cost of living as well. Check out the suburbs of Summerville, Goose Creek and Hanahan.
What about distant suburbs of Detroit, perhaps closer to Ann Arbor.
i can only imagine that the detroit problems are slowly spreading.

Actually sarcasm aside, if u look at the numbers the cities problems are contained to the city, which is getting better and the suburbs have improved dramatically since the Auto bailout.

Exactly...I don't understand why people think that because the city has some issues, that the whole metro is suffering. I would think given the line of work the OP is in, that the area would be worth some consideration.

Downtown Detroit is arguably thriving at this point but there is much to do in the city overall. Still positive signs and a great environment for entrepreneurs which is what's driving the renaissance.
i currently live a couple hours south of detroit, and have friends that live there. their word is enough to keep me out lol.
