By Shoreline or Coastline. It means on a large body of water. But to be more inclusive lets include the Great Lakes and Rivers. Tell us your reasons why? Post pictures if you want to show us.
Miami, LA, SD all spring to mind. To me its got to be salt water though I do like the lakefront of Chicago but its just not a beach (yes I know people sunbath there and have been there probably 50 or times in my life and love Chicago but its just not an ocean people, once you grow up with one the lake is well a lake no matter how large)like the oceans
SF and LA have some pretty stellar coastlines as well with dramatic cliffs and beaches etc.
I'd say San Diego or Tampa for ocean waterfronts, Pittsburgh or San Antonio for rivers, and Milwaukee and Chicago for the lakefront. LA's and Miami's beaches can get kind gross with human activity, and you have to go out a few miles from what I'd consider a city's waterfront to find the prettier spots.
Miami Florida and Chicago Illinois both have great waterfronts. I don't think any other big city has what they have. Most coastal cities are on a bay or river, but those two are right on the shoreline.
