Good morning,
My fiancé (black) and I (Jewish) are looking to relocate from southern oregon. We moved here in July from the east coast, when he got out of the he military. Needless to say, we feel less than welcome. I'm from philly and he grew up all over the east coast. We are looking for a diverse, cultured, accepting city to live in on the west coast. I heard Portland too white, Seattle's too expensive and cloudy San Diego's expensive. I'm going crazy. Pease help.
Requirements: diverse, accepting, good for raising a family, jobs (I'm a speech path in schools), shopping, veteran friendly.
Thanks!!!!

University Place near Tacoma should be on your short list.

It's also near JBLM, if your husband needs work.

Default Challenged!

You make it difficult top make any suggestions really . . . I lived in Seattle for 13 years, and agree the gray gets to you, but if you think it's too pricey there, virtually nowhere in CA is going to be better.

Have you actually BEEN to and REALLY explored Portland? I find it hard to believe a mixed-race couple would have any issues there at all; it's one of the most liberal cities in the US!

Note that the weather is not that different from Seattle though.

Unless you want smaller towns, your options on the WC are limited.

I would recommend Oakland. The Bay area is a great place to live, and Oakland is both diverse/affordable with rental rates often half of what is seen in San Francisco.

Sacramento
Parts of the Inland Empire aren't too pricey (San Bernadino area)

Sacramento or Oakland.

When I say Sacramento, it includes all the areas just outside of city limit like Davis, Folsom, Roseville, etc. Which some people found more suiting than the Sac city limit.
