Atlanta hosted the Olympics in 1996. It's the cultural capital of the South, with a metro of over 5 million people and growing. The airport is the busiest in the world, and I'm pretty sure Atlanta is known around the world for Hip Hop music. Not to mention, birthplace of Coca-Cola and hometown of MLK. Atlanta is already world class/global.

Those are great aspects of Atlanta, but Atlanta also is cookie cutter America with not a lot going on for "downtown culture". The times I visited, I was not impressed by downtown. It is modern, which I like, but lacks character and that is why I would hesitate to call it a current world class city. Maybe as time passes, Atlanta will become a more recognizable for its modern lifestyle and that will merit it a designation a world class city.

Yeah, it's not really one of those "let's walk around downtown" cities. The Centennial Olympic Park area is pretty cool, though.
I would place NYC, Washington, LA, Miami, Seattle, San Fran, Chicago, and Boston as world class cities.
I would say the next fringe would be: Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Philly, Minneapolis, and Vegas(for tourism)
Then the level bellow that (up and coming/almost there): San Diego, Portland, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Tampa, Orlando, Providence, Austin, San Antonio, Phoenix, New Orleans,

If you've only visited the touristy part of downtown, I could understand your sentiment. But saying Atlanta lacks character means you probably haven't seen huge portions of the city. Even some areas of downtown, like Fairlie-Poplar, have character

I haven't visited too much I'd agree, a few times (most of which I stayed downtown). I have been to Fairlie-Poplar. But again, it's not "world class" by any stretch of the imagination. It reminds me of back home in Charleston, WV (Capitol Street) on a larger scale. In no way does it compete with Seattle, NYC, DC, Paris, London, Tokyo, Jerusalem, Frankfurt, etc...

Atlanta can compete with Seattle..... Also, Seattle is not a world class city as of now. Seattle is not in the same tier as the cities you listed like WOW.

I would disagree, but you can have your cup of tea. I think Seattle has a better vibe about it, and it has more world class attributes than Atlanta. Seattle is a major port city, with major naval installations. Is home to major corporations same as Atlanta, the difference is in the character. Atlanta is simply to bland in that regard. I think you all believe that I am hating on Atlanta, but I actually really like Atlanta. But I know it's not a top tier world class city. It had the Olympics which was awesome, and Coke and Delta have a thing going there, but it doesn't reak culture and international amenities.

Seattle is not a top tier city. I don't think you're hating on Atlanta, I don't like the city either but if you think Seattle is in the same tier as the cities you listed then you're one funny character. Do you honestly think it is in the same tier as NYC, London, Paris, Tokyo, DC, Frankfurt?

These are all aspects of a world class city. There's also more aspects aswell, ask yourself does Seattle posses most of these?
