Probably a state where people don't identify so much with cities, and a state that is unique to other states. Obvious choice is Hawaii. People from Hawaii are very proud of it. Thinking about the lower 48, maybe Arizona because of it's more state-centric than city-centric landscape and it's unique qualities.
But people from California and Texas seem proud of their states and content to just stay with the confines of their very large, very diverse states with many notable cities.
A recent Gallup poll, for whatever that's worth, shows that Montanans and Alaskans hold the most pride in their states, followed by Wyomingites, Utahans, Texans, Hawaiians, New Hampshirites, North Dakotans, Coloradans, Vermonters, Oregonians and Minnesotans (at least those are all of the ones where over 60% of respondents believed their state to be the "best" place to live).
North Carolina, a ton of pride in this state and for good reason.
