Low cost of living, laid back people, great sports, liberal but not radically so, great American food, mild summers, it's very safe, and it's beautiful too. You'd be super close to mountains of West Virginia if you ever want to go hiking, camping, fishing, or rafting.
Otherwise, I'll echo everyone else who suggested Chicago. If you're young, single, and love sports, there really is no better city. Though, Pittsburgh is safer and has better weather.
Think hard about the Philadelphia area. It is on the rise for young people and the cost of living is low for a major metropolitan city. Its very artsy and young. Passionate about sports and plenty to do. We live in Collingswood, NJ which is a city-burb over the bridge. We get more house for our money and an easy and safe commute into Philly on the PATCO train-subway.
Thanks for your answers. So the Midwest/West is where I should be looking?
