Same here. I compare it to Virginia. Southern in name only. TN is headed down the same road.

I have lived in Texas for the past twenty five years, but I lived in NC for three years during my school aged years. I loved it. (We also lived in Virginia for three years and I loved it there too.)

I have visited NC several times since then - in fact, my husband and I go to Asheville a couple of times a year. We would like to visit the Outer Banks this next year - I've been before but he has never been.

In my opinion, NC offers some of the best of the following:

1. Mountains
2. Beaches
3. Beautiful little small towns
4. American history
5. Southern culture and hospitality

NC is one of my favorite states and I consider it a national treasure!

I guess if you think there's no NC outside of the Triangle and Charlotte you'd think that. Even in those areas there's plenty of Southern culture present.

No, I have lived in NC. I have been all over the state. I don't consider the state Southern. At one time, yes. Currently, no. NC is the same as Virginia. More Mid-Atlantic than Southern.

So what are the mid atlantic states? Everybody that I have met from NC looks at themselves as Southerners.

Not technically southern but being Floridian, I've always associated North Carolina with education, diversity, and white-collar jobs.
