In north Idaho. Bought our retirement home there last year.

No doubt we are going against all the normal trends:

Moving to an area with 4 full seasons - We love 4 seasons, and can't deal with heat
Moving to a rural area - 30 minutes to the nearest town
Moving to a larger property - 20 acres, mostly just forest so not too much maintenance
Moving to a larger house - A little bigger than we wanted

All but the last item were very deliberate. We would have been happy with a house that was a bit smaller, but we fell in love with this one, so we'll make it work.

At times when I think we may be crazy, I consider a friend who is in an even more remote location - about an hour to the nearest town, and then that town doesn't have the services our's does.

Follow your bliss my friends ...

Dave

Id be happy with a small, pseudo-adobe home in the middle-of-nowhere New Mexico, preferably the mid-Central/south area of the state. Nothing around but cacti, red rock mesas, and wildlife. I dont even want to see a power line, thats how remote Id like to be.

I'm with you on that one. It's one of the nicest places I've ever lived. I would have to win the lottery before I could afford to move back to that area.

I'm thinking Portugal too! Hopefully I'll retire at 50, which would still be young enough to learn a new language (hopefully).

I'd like to retire in a walkable town with some land to grow things, by a warm Beach. Sounds hard to come by LOL.

New York City, London or Paris if can afford it.

If not, then who knows. I'm not much interested in retiring anywhere else.

I wish I could retire at 50. Either way, Greece and Portugal are steals in terms of COL and the weather, landscapes, food and people are wonderful.

Portuguese is not that difficult. But that damn Greek alphabet!
